Thursday, September 16, 2010 FEIAA Gala 40th Anniversary Celebration view invitation 6:30pm - 9:30pm Army Navy Country Club, 1700 Army Navy Drive, Arlington, VA 22202 map it
Mark your calendar to attend the gala dinner and celebration of the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association’s (FEIAA’s) 40th anniversary on the eve of Constitution Day at the Army Navy Country Club. It is an event you absolutely won’t want to miss. President Thomas Jefferson (Bill Barker who portrays Jefferson at Colonial Williamsburg) will be on hand along with the Federal Executive Institute’s (FEI’s) first Director, Frank Sherwood, Ph.D., and FEIAA’s first President, Chuck Bingman. Our speakers will share their perspectives on our nation’s 221 years of Trust, Leadership, and Change in the development of a nation built upon sound principles and freedom of rights, and governance designed to balance powers of the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
What insights might Mr. Jefferson share from 1789, when our country’s Constitution was put into operation, with Dr. Sherwood and Mr. Bingman? Both leaders from FEI have written books since the first FEI class graduated from the leadership development program offered at the institute in 1970, which is located at the former Jefferson Inn at Charlottesville. What might Dr. Sherwood and Mr. Bingman be most concerned about as the pendulum of time makes its mark on the future of governance to secure American leadership in the world?
This event will also include book signings featuring several authors, including Sherwood and Bingman, who have contributed to, and advocated, achieving best results through trusted leadership and ethical principles in government.
The 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. event begins with a social hour followed by a sit-down dinner in the Ballroom at the Army Navy Country Club at 1700 Army Navy Drive, Arlington, VA 22202, just south of Pentagon City, and parallel to Route 395. Parking is free. Dress is business attire. A cash bar will be available from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., which will include wine, beer and spirits.
To register and for additional information, please go online to www.feiaa.org. The last day to sign up is Tuesday, September 7. No refunds will be made after Wednesday, September 8.

Monday, September 27, 2010 Max Stier, President and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, Speaks to FEIAA Members on "Management and Leadership Challenges Facing Federal Government Executives Today and How They Can Improve Their Service to the Public" 11:30am - 1:00pm U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD), 451 7TH STREET, SW, WASHINGTON, D.C.
FEIAA invites you to a discussion on “Management and Leadership Challenges Facing Federal Government Executives Today and How They Can Improve Their Service to the Public”, featuring Max Stier as our speaker.
Max Stier is the President and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to revitalizing our federal government by inspiring a new generation to serve and by transforming the way government works.
Under Stier’s leadership, the Partnership has been widely praised as a first-class nonprofit organization and thought leader on federal workforce issues. Innovative Partnership programs such as Call to Serve, a network of more than 600 colleges and universities and 75 federal agencies, help to inform and inspire students while building a pipeline of new talent into the federal government. Partnership research projects such as the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings highlight exemplary federal agencies while encouraging other agencies to improve by adopting best practices. Stier’s commitment to shining a light on talented federal employees is also the driving force behind the Partnership’s Service to America Medals program, which culminates each year with a black-tie gala honoring the great work of our country’s unsung heroes.
Stier previously worked in all three branches of the federal government. Prior to joining the Partnership, he served as the Deputy General Counsel for Litigation at the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He clerked for Chief Judge James Oakes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1992 and clerked for Justice David Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1994. Between these two positions, Stier served as Special Litigation Counsel to Assistant Attorney General Anne Bingaman at the Department of Justice. His career in government service began in 1982, when he served on the personal staff of U.S. Representative Jim Leach (R-IA).
Stier’s professional experience also includes practicing law at the firm of Williams & Connolly, where he focused primarily on white collar defense.
Stier is a graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School, and is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
