Wellness Matters: Fitting in Fitness
Share |

Information provided by Federal Occupational Health

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it can be difficult to fit exercise into your day. Yet, physical activity is a great way to relieve stress and spend quality time with others.
Here are a few tips to help you stay active:

  • Schedule walking meetings at work.
  • Take the stairs, instead of the elevator.
  • Utilize fitness resources that are available to you at work (e.g., onsite fitness center, fitness classes, group walks).
  • Take your dog for an extended walk and bring along the family.
  • Spend 15 minutes of your lunch break walking.
  • Sneak in a lap around the grocery store or mall before and after shopping.
  • Go for a hike with friends and family on the weekend.
  • Play active, fitness-promoting video games with your kids.

There are so many ways to incorporate physical activity into your day! Be creative and find what works for you. Combine activities like the above to achieve the Department of Health and Human Services’ physical activity recommendations for adults. Keep in mind that even 10 minutes counts—and more vigorous aerobic activity requires less time to achieve the same health benefits.
