Career SES Will Save the World
March 21, 2019 - 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EST

Presenter: Bill Valdez and Co. – SEA

This course is being presented as a webinar.

We live in tumultuous times characterized by political polarization that is creating gridlock in Washington; radical and disruptive change that is affecting not just financial markets but vital civil institutions; and an unprecedented pace of social change induced by new technologies and social media that is leading to cyberattacks on institutions, international disinformation campaigns, and new platforms for extremist groups.  The result is that the Federal government is at a tipping point in terms of its ability to deliver on its vital mission responsibilities and ensure that our Nation and our citizens receive the full benefit of their investments in government services and products.   But, fear not, career Senior Executives are the key to dealing with these seemingly daunting challenges.  What is needed is a new paradigm of Federal Public Service Leadership development that produces career leaders equipped to meet 21st Century challenges.

Bill Valdez, SEA President

Bill Valdez was appointed as the President of the Senior Executives Association (SEA) in September 2016.  As President, Bill sets SEA’s overall strategic direction and is focused on strengthening the Senior Executive Service (SES) through legislative and policy initiatives, building a leadership pipeline for the Executive Branch, and establishing SEA as a thought leader in the Washington, DC policy debates that impact not only the SES, but all civil service employees.

Bill retired from Federal service as a career Senior Executive in July 2014.  His career with the Department of Energy spanned over 20 years and he has extensive knowledge in the areas of R&D portfolio analysis and evaluation, energy/environmental technologies and policies, small business development, supply chain analysis, science and engineering workforce development, budget planning and execution, diversity and equal opportunity issues, science policy, human capital processes and policies, procurement processes and policies, corporate and strategic planning, and contract management.
