Profiles in Leadership: Cynthia M. Dewey

Cynthia Dewey joined the faculty of the Federal Executive Institute in 2018, although she comes from our Western Management Development Center, Denver with 10 years’ experience as an Education Program Director within the Center for Leadership Development. She manages multiple, complex leadership development and learning initiatives spanning dozens of agencies in the federal government. Cynthia provides impactful consulting services to a variety of federal agencies and works closely with senior executive leaders to execute learning strategies for a variety of needs. Cynthia managed over 569 Leadership Programs, educated over 18,000 participants, and expertly managed over $25 million in federal clients training dollars to support their human capital strategies.

Cynthia is an International Coach Federation (ICF) Certified Coach at the Professional Coach Certification (PCC) level (750 hours+) and Gallup Strength Certified Coach. Her other certifications include Gallup’s Strengths Finder Coach Certification; Influence Style Indicator; Team Emotional and Social Intelligence; 4-Lenses Temperament Intelligence; Hogan Assessments: Hogan Personality Inventory, Hogan Development Survey, and the Motives, Values and Preferences Inventory, Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior (FIRO-B), DiSC/Extended DiSC Personal Profile; and others.

Cynthia has received the following awards:

  • 2018 Office of Personnel Management (OPM)’s Human Resources STAR Award for Excellence in Customer Service as well as Excellence in Leadership
  • 2nd Place for Best Leadership Development Program at the Human Capital Management for Government (HCMG) Awards—lead designer for the leadership program designed for the Federal Drug Administration
  • Colorado Federal Executive Board, Rocky Mountain Eagle Award for Employee of the Year
  • Department of the Army Achievement Medal for “Outstanding vision and leadership for the design and development of the Senior Leadership Cohort Program”

Prior to her work at OPM, Cynthia worked with the U.S. Air Force at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, with other Air Force assignments in Germany, Maxwell AFB, and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. Cynthia has an MPA from the University of Denver and lives in Colorado Springs with her husband.
