Program & Events Committee – Year in Review

December 2018

What a year it has been for FEIAA’s Program & Events Committee! Our goal was to provide a stimulating range of helpful educational and social programs and events for FEIAA members. In particular, the committee focused on supplying informative content for webinars throughout the year and provided an outstanding Executive Forum on May 16, 2018.

By all accounts, the 2018 Executive Forum was a rousing success. There were 170 attendees at the Forum – 50 more than last year. A range of 112 to 124 responded to the evaluation form depending on the topic or question. The overall respondents’ satisfaction with the Forum was 4.6 -- with 96% of the them rating it at a 4 or 5. The net income from the 2018 Executive Forum was over $39,000.

Seven webinars were conducted in 2018. The FEIAA webinars this year were focused on topics related to developing a leadership style. They covered a broad range of information including: leading in turbulent times, fostering innovation and change, reconciling culture and strategy, and managing multiple generations. There was also a webinar on the upcoming changes to the Thrift Savings Plan.

Participation was generally in the range of 20 to 30 attendees for the webinars. The committee strives for a rating of 4 out of 5 for each webinar and presenter. In the surveys from the webinars, attendees recommended the following topics for the future.

  • Developing “executive presence”
  • Leveraging LDS training back at the Office
  • Learning about the government budgeting process
  • Defining “Executive Level” experiences
  • Writing ECQs and developing qualifications
  • Providing positive examples of ECQs
  • Presenting lessons learned on successes and failures along the SES road, and
  • Working in a “political” environment.

A first-ever Town Hall meeting was convened in February 8th and three social events were held throughout the year. Members participated in the Wreaths Across America Program on December 15th and 43 members attended the holiday luncheon on December 7th.

Work also began with the Senior Executives Association in September 2018 to jointly host a series of webinars. These webinars will deal with becoming a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) and developing Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) for the SES application. – Many of the topics listed above. This will be the committee’s focus for the 2019 webinar series.
