Stephen Bieda III, NOAA LDCP
National Weather Service

Dr. Stephen Bieda is a distinguished meteorologist and leader with over 15 years of experience in operational forecasting, research-to-operations initiatives, and data-driven meteorological analysis. As Branch Chief for Severe, Fire, Public, and Winter Weather Services at the National Weather Service (NWS), he leads a team dedicated to enhancing national forecasting accuracy by integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, into predictive models. Previously, as National Science & Operations Officer, Dr. Bieda oversaw 141 Science & Operations Officers and Development & Operations Hydrologists, driving significant advancements such as the implementation of probabilistic hazard prediction models and integrated decision support tools.
 
Dr. Bieda is an alum of the NOAA's Leadership Competencies Development Program (LCDP) an 18-month initiative providing cross-line, multidisciplinary training to broaden participants' understanding of NOAA’s strategic vision, mission, and goals, with rigorous training received at the Federal Executive Institute (FEI).  Beyond his roles within NWS, Dr. Bieda is actively involved with the American Meteorological Society (AMS), serving as the incoming Commissioner of the Scientific and Technological Activities Commission (STAC) and as an editor for the AMS Journal of Weather and Forecasting. His leadership within AMS has contributed to advancing meteorological science and fostering collaboration within the community. Dr. Bieda holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science and is committed to bridging the gap between research and operational application to improve public safety and decision support services.
