Celebrate PSRW by Remembering Your Public Service Annual Goals
By Deb Schweikert (LDS P272)

The month of May brings Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW). Held annually since 1985, this commemoration honors local, state, and Federal public servants. This year, the week of May 5 through 11 gives us an opportunity to say thank you for doing what we often describe as “thankless” jobs. So far, 2019 has been a particularly difficult (and fairly thankless) year for Federal public servants.

May Is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month
May was chosen as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month to commemorate the first immigration of Japanese individuals to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.

Public Service Recognition Week
Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is a week dedicated to honoring our public servants. Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated the first week of May, beginning on the first Sunday of the month.

Leadership Lessons Series:
Coaching Clients through Values-Driven Choices
Last month we had the opportunity to hold a leadership presentation aimed at aspiring Federal leaders. We were invited to speak on any topic we wanted; we chose to speak about values as the root of authentic leadership.

Wellness Matters:
The Importance of Sleep
Getting a good night’s rest is just as important as eating right and getting enough exercise. Adults should aim for seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Getting adequate sleep, however, goes beyond being in bed for a set number of hours.

Fed Corner:
Strengthening Your Feedback-Giving Skills
Feedback is defined as reactions to a product or a person’s performance of a task that is used as a basis for improvement. The most effective way to give people feedback is one of the hottest topics in human capital management today.

FEIAA Happenings:
Focusing on Connections and Connectivity in 2019 and Beyond
The April 2019 annual FEIAA retreat was a successful meeting for the organization. As a Board, we achieved many of our goals in developing a plan to narrow our focus on what we do well and how to maximize our resources to best serve our members.

FEI Happenings:
FEI Footsteps Classes
FEI is excited to offer two unique programs this year for continuing professional leadership development. Both are great opportunities to get out of the classroom and expand your perspective while also focusing on your own wellness—both things that help develop your leadership capacity.
