‘Tis The Season, and I Bid Adieu as President
BY PETER (DUKE) DUKLIS (P387)

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (חנוכה שמח), Happy Kwanzaa (Habari gani), and Happy Holidays! December is the holiday month, and I wish you a great one and a very happy and prosperous new year. Get out there and be with friends and family, and celebrate the time of year and your relationships. Put aside differences, bad thoughts, grudges, and any other negative vibes, and enjoy. Be happy and healthy. I realize it can be stressful, but it only comes around once a year. Get in the mood and make a pleasant experience for all. Your family and friends will applaud you for it.

On another note, I will be ending my term as president when the Board conducts its election. Therefore, this will be my last Executive Summary article. My family and I are moving to Naples, Italy, where I have accepted the position of deputy director, operations (N3), Navy Region Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia. It is a significant opportunity for me to get back to the Department of Defense and overseas, where I have spent so many years. I will remain on the Federal Executive Institute Alumni Association (FEIAA) Board for another year as a member, and will serve as the immediate past president while the newly elected president completes his or her term.

I would like to thank the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and your great FEIAA Board for putting up with me, my quirks, my ideas, and my leadership for the past two years. In a lifetime of memorable and intrepid military and civilian government service, my term as president of FEIAA has been a noteworthy and honorable time.

I will remember this time fondly for the friendships I have formed and for, hopefully, making FEIAA a better and more effective organization—but I take no credit for anything that was accomplished under my tenure; all the credit goes to the FEIAA Board officers and members. No past president has had such a stellar, innovative, intelligent, and spirited team than I had the great fortune to lead. I will truly miss their camaraderie and sense of humor. I know they will continue to do great things. The following are just a few of the achievements made by them over the past two years:

  • Increased membership more than twofold
  • Moved to an e-newsletter
  • Revamped and made the Alumni Store viable and productive
  • Is bringing the organization into the 21st century
  • Planned and executed dynamic and relevant Executive Forums, thereby increasing attendance
  • Planned and delivered an e-townhall
  • Developed a partnership with the Senior Executive Association
  • Has enabled FEIAA to now hold charitable events throughout the year

Therefore, when you see an FEIAA Board member, please, thank them for their tireless voluntary hours of support and service to the organization. THANK YOU ALL!

Leadership Quote of the Month, a Farewell
“Don’t be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends.”
― Richard Bach
